In the Integration Corner of the Technology for Educators book website, under the language arts and reading section, I found a website that I feel would be very beneficial for students in a language arts class. It’s called ipl2.org, and it lists a multitude of resources for students (and teachers!) to use in order to further their studies. The website has an easy-to-navigate front page that lists different sections and genres of study, and creates an easy way for kids to access what they are looking for. In addition to this, it has a homework help section that includes a dictionary and encyclopedia. This aspect is the most important to me, because I really believe that a student should always have as many resources as possible when they need help, so that they can pursue it themselves and succeed.
In one of the subcategories, “Reading Zone”, the website even lists reading material for students of various ages. Here, students can find links to short stories, poems, magazines, and book lists with additional research information links. These links would really be a great source for when students have to do research projects on their material, since by using this one site they’ll be able access information regarding the author and subject matter.
Ipl2.org not only has resource links to aid students, but creates a fun atmosphere as well. Students can navigate on the site to locations of games and puzzles relevant to language arts and reading education, which entertain as well as educate.
I went to the site you’re talking about and you’re right, it is beneficial and easy. I think I like the Reading Zone the best because it can be really useful for students at home and in class. The links to the short stories and poems could really help a student doing a research project or anyone that is just curious.
ReplyDeleteThat was a great website. Very cool things for kids, and you're absolutely right, greats tools for researching reports and such. This site could even be great for kids who hate reading. I know a few things about that. My 9 year old hates reading, and he really liked that website.....Great find!
ReplyDeleteI visited ipl2.org and went to quite a few of the different sites. I like all the possibilities you have for all the different subjects. The dictionary and encyclopedia section are important because most kids don't have them at home. This is a plus for me.
ReplyDeleteFinding ways to make learning more fun can be difficult. When somebody has found a way that you can utilize in your own classroom, it makes life so much easier. It’s great that you have found a website that combines education and entertainment. Also, it is geared towards both students and teachers, so it’s pulling double duty.
ReplyDeleteI went to take a look at the website you said and it is a very beneficial site! I agree One hundred Percent. This is a good website for example kids that arent really good at reading or just dont enjoy it. I think this website would maybe motivate them a little more into getting to like reading!
ReplyDeleteI also was really impressed with the first website (ipl2.org). I was particularly impressed with the homework help that it offered! I found it very reliable and helpful when it came to resources as well! It seems like an all around great website to use!
